Dear Students and Families,
Happy Summer! Now that school is over, it is a perfect time to kick back and relax… with a good book! The SWWFS Middle School Language Arts Team wants to ensure that all students are practicing and strengthening their literacy skills throughout the summer months. To accomplish this, we are requiring all students to complete a Middle School Summer Reading Assignment.
For Part 1 of the Summer Reading Assignment, students are expected to read a preselected fictional novel. Incoming Sixth Grade students are expected to read the story “Rules” by Cynthia Lord. Rising Seventh Grade students are expected to read the novel, The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Finally, our Rising Eighth Grade students are expected to read the novel Jump the Cracks by Stacy DeKeyser.
For Part 2, students need to select their own non-fiction reading, preferably an informational text that is 3-5 pages in length. Please assist students to ensure that the subject matter and length are appropriate for your student.
Part 3 of the assignment directs students to complete the Analysis-Packet. Students are required to complete each part of the worksheets using their knowledge and analysis of the selected fiction and independent non-fiction.
After completing all three parts of the Middle School Summer Reading Assignment, students must submit their work to Mr. Fehlinger during the first two weeks of the school year (beginning August 21, 2017). The assignment will not be accepted after September 1, 2017. Students who register after August 1, 2017 will have until the final week of the first marking period to submit the assignment.
Should you have any questions, please contact Mr. Fehlinger
