School Without Walls at Francis-Stevens Club Options: Fall 2017

Link will go live on Sunday, 9/17 at 12pm and will close on Tuesday, 9/19 at 8pm. Enrollment is determined via lottery . Paper and online registrations will both be accepted, however, we appreciate online registrations when possible. PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT MORE THAN ONE FORM PER CHILD. Families will be notified by Friday, 9/22, confirming their enrollment or waitlist placement and payments will be due the first week of clubs. We will not accept payments until enrollment is confirmed.

Description: Introduction to classical ballet, creative movement, dance history, and classical ballet vocabulary.

Bricks 4 Kidz

Description: Bricks 4 Kidz uses LEGO building blocks to teach fundamentals of S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education.
Your child/children will have barrels of fun (and learn a bunch) as they utilize LEGO® bricks to explore the world of engineering and architecture
in an open, friendly, and team-based enrichment program.

C3 Cyber Club – Minecraft Programming

Description: Technology-based computer classes teaching students the fundamentals of important fields through games they love. Examples:
Minecraft Programming , Minecraft Animation, Game Design & Production.

Challenge Island

Fiber Art Club

Description: Club members will have the opportunity to learn a variety of fiber art skills and make projects to take home. Projects will start
simple for our younger friends and be differentiated according to child’s abilities and/or individual needs. Projects we will learn potentially
include: various styles of weaving, knitting, crochet, simple needlepoint with plastic needles, and tie dye fiber art.

Flying Kicks Tae Kwon Do

Description: Flying Kicks Fitness Center focuses on teaching children a Tae Kwon Do curriculum that develops a child’s physical and mental
abilities. Emphasis is based on exercising and learning Tae Kwon Do techniques and safety. In addition to the physical abilities children are
taught the meaning and importance of the five tenets of Tae Kwon Do: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-Control and Indomitable Spirit.

GeoPlunge

Description: Use key facts about the 50 states to compete in a series of strategic games. Students will participate in citywide competition.

GW Street Law/We The People

Description: The Street Law Kidz will learn basic civic and legal lessons. Students will gain a better understanding of the American justice
system, their own legal rights and civic responsibilities and the important roles they play in their community. Students will engage in
discussions of salient issues relating to criminal and constitutional law. At the end of the program, students will travel to the George
Washington campus to participate in a mock trial. Students will also participate in a We The People Competition in February. We are looking
for students who have great research, interpersonal, and public speaking skills. Students must be comfortable with researching and presenting
their finds to peers and adults.

Jr. Sustainability/Sustainability Club

Description: Students will work to improve our school garden and grounds as needed and may help in school-wide Earth Day celebrations. We
will take a field trip to the Upper Marlborough Composting facility, hike the C & O Canal Park, and enter our second River Smart competition.
We will attend the Anacostia Environmental Youth Summit in June. We will need to do some group writes on a few grants and a scholarship to
accomplish the above. This is a multiple-award-winning club.

Jazz Dance Club

Description : Students will work on flexibility, memorization and learn a jazz dance routine to be performed at the end. If interested, the
students can have a chance to help choreograph a routine themselves too. Please bring a great attitude and a smile!

Keegan PLAY-RAH-KA Theatre Club

Latin Moves

Overtime Athletics

Description: Let’s Play! Save the best for last by finishing up the school day with Sports Spectacular, a variety athletic program that features
different sports throughout the session. Participants will practice skills and play games in both traditional sports and playground favorites. The
Sports Spectacular Variety Program features the best “to-do” list ever – Basketball, Soccer, Flag Football, Kickball, Capture the Flag, Wiffle Ball,
Bump and Bite, Knights and Dragons, Numbers Game, Tag Games, Safe Base and MORE! OTA covers all the bases with our emphasis on playing,
teamwork, sportsmanship, and fitness. Don’t miss out on the FUN!

Paint, Sip and Snack

Description: Students will learn art appreciation through painting and will also be served snacks and juice! Bring an old shirt weekly to protect
clothing.

Tappin’ Tigers

Description: Love to dance? Love rhythm and the sound of tap shoes on stage? Then this is the club for you! The Tappin’ Tigers is back for its
second year! All levels of tap experience welcome. The class will be taught every other week by Ms. Stephanie from the Knock on Wood Tap
Studio and every week by kindergarten teacher Mrs. Roby (formerly Ms. Burr). Tappers will perform a routine in the Winter Showcase in
December!
