Coaches’ Corner

Coaches at SWW @ Francis Stevens play an instrumental part in the growth and development of our students. We commit to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for our student athletes. Our coaches are passionate, positive, and professional.

If you are interested in coaching a sport at SWW @ Francis Stevens, please apply for an athletic coaching position through DCPS Extracurricular Application and send your resume to athletic director, Philip Tavares at philip.tavares@dc.gov. Coaching stipends are offered for DC Interscholastic Athletic Association (DCIAA) sanctioned sports.

DCIAA Coaching Certification Checklist:

  • Concussion Certification – Coaches must complete the online course, “Concussion in Sports,” offered through nfhslearn.com.
  • Heat Acclimatization Certification – Coaches must complete the online course, “Heat Illness Prevention,” offered through nfhslearn.com.
  • DCPS Coach’s Identification Card – Coaches must complete a background check and receive a DCPS identification card through DCPS Fingerprinting Office. Please note, coaches need to bring with them a copy of their completed Tuberculosis (TB) test to their visit with fingerprinting office.
  • First-Aid, CPR, and AED Certification
  • DCIAA Coaching Test – Coaches must pass the DCIAA Coach’s Test offered through the DCIAA on its policies/procedures.
  • DCIAA Coach’s Agreement  Coaches must review and sign the DCIAA Coach’s Agreement.
  • DCIAA Rules Meeting Coaches must attend the pre-season DCIAA sport meeting with officiating directors.
  • Receipt Acknowledgement for Athletics Extra Duty Pay Procedures. Coaches must review and sign the  Receipt Acknowledgement for Athletic Extra Duty Stipend Pay Procedures.

 

All persons coaching within the DC Interscholastic Athletic Association must adhere to the guidelines set forth in the DCIAA Athletics Handbook.
